The Relationship between Spirituality and Servant Leadership in a Title I Elementary School
Freeman, Noreen A.
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Lincoln Memorial University
In this study, the researcher examined the relationship between teachers' perceived reliance on their spirituality, their functions as servant leaders, and the relationship between their perceived reliance on their spirituality and their perceived levels of serenity in the academic setting. Participants included 45 certified, full-time general education teachers at an elementary school in a Southeastern state. To examine the relationships, the researcher used The Spiritual Well-Being Scale, The Multidimensional and Multi level Assessment of Servant Leadership, and The Brief Serenity Scale. Analysis included generating descriptive statistics for the responses on each instrument and exploring the extent to which the responses on the three instruments correlated with each other by computing the Pearson correlation coefficients. The results indicated a positive correlation between educators' spirituality and servant leadership attributes. Analysis of the teachers' perceptions revealed there were varying levels of spiritual well-being and serenity levels that influenced teacher roles in the elementary school classroom.
