Body Mass Index, Self-Esteem, and Suicide Risk in Clinically Depressed African American and White American Females.
Palmer, Charles James, Jr.
Journal of Black Psychology, v29 n4 p408-28 Nov 2003
Assessed whether clinically depressed healthy-weight, overweight, and obese females would differ on self-esteem and suicide risk measures. Data on clinically depressed females from an inpatient psychiatric unit indicated that the three groups did not differ significantly on measures of self-esteem and suicide risk, but depressed, obese, white females had significantly lower self-esteem and increased suicide risk than depressed healthy-weight and overweight while females.
