This book contains the papers presented at an international seminar which examined the state of the art and the problems and issues related to the preservice and inservice education of science teachers. These papers, numbering above 60, are arranged in 9 chapters. The first chapter provides a general overview of problems and issues related to science teacher education. The papers in the remaining eight chapters deal with various topics and issues focusing on: (1) culture, society, and teacher education; (2) learning and cognition; (3) preservice education; (4) inservice education; (5) teacher education for implementing curriculum materials; (6) practical and vicarious experiences; (7) research; and (8) evaluation. Each chapter includes a brief introduction written by its editor which provides an overview of the papers included in that chapter. (ML)
