Utilisation of British University Research Reactors.
Duncton, P. J.; And Others
British experience relating to the employment of university research reactors and subcritical assemblies in the education of nuclear scientists and technologists, in the training of reactor operators and for fundamental pure and applied research in this field is reviewed. The facilities available in a number of British universities and the uses which were made of them for undergraduate training and for postgraduate and postdoctoral research are described. Reference is made to the possibilities of work in collaboration with industrial, medical, and other nuclear establishments and laboratories. Statistics are given not only of the size of the various departments and of the influx of students, but also of the division of reactor operating time between the various types of work and classes of user. The nature and results of a typical range of research projects which were carried out in the university laboratories are described. (NTIS)
