Perspectives on contemporary creationism are offered and the effects of that movement on public education are examined in this collection of articles. Six papers address concerns related to: (1) the detrimental impact of creationism on the teaching of science and on the understanding of the natural sciences; (2) efforts in confronting creation pseudoscience and creationists' attempts to controlling the schools; (3) evolution's coverage in textbooks; (4) exclusion of the subject of evolution in biology textbooks; (5) treatment of evolution in seven new life-science textbooks; and (6) political movement and the aspirations of the creationists.
