Information on health occupations educational programs in Ohio and current and projected employment needs for health professionals are presented. The following health fields are examined: allied health, dentistry, emergency medical service, nursing, optometry, pharmacy, podiatry, and veterinary medicine. Issues and trends affecting each field are identified, and attention is directed to the supply of graduates, anticipated demand for each type of health professional, and the cost of educational training. Recommendations concerning health occupations educational programs are included. A chart indicates Ohio schools offering public accredited and nonaccredited allied health education programs. In addition, maps show the locations (by county) of specific allied health programs, as well as emergency medicine and nursing programs. Data are also provided on: allied health programs by field and degree, including number of programs, enrollments, graduates, and placements; trends in the number of dental school applicants, dental class size, and graduates for two Ohio institutions; the number of licensed dentists and the ratio of dentists to population; and the ages of Ohio nurses in full- and part-time jobs and the percent of licensed nurses.
