Group Norms and the Attitude-Behavior Relationship: A Role for Group Identification.
Terry, Deborah J.; Hogg, Michael A.
Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, v22 n8 p776-93 Aug 1996
Two studies provided support for the proposal that the role of norms in attitude-behavior relations can be useful reconceptualized for the perspective of social identity/self- categorization theory. Study one examined group norms as they influenced subjects to engage in regular exercise. Study two examined group norms as they influenced subjects to engage in sun-protective behavior. Discusses findings. (KW)
