The Relationships between Different Personality Characteristics and Styles of Coping with Stress in Elite Orienteers.
Zsheliaskova-Koynova, Zshivka
Scientific Journal of Orienteering, v9 n1-2 p43-48 Fall 1993
Eighty orienteers, divided into three groups according to level of expertise in orienteering, completed questionnaires measuring extraversion, neuroticism, trait anxiety, social desirability, need for achievement, and locus of control. Subject interviews revealed individual styles of coping with precompetitive stress. A combination of high sport qualification and high emotional stability was associated with the concentrating style of coping. (KS)
