Teen Living 7, 8207. Home Economics Education.
Loudoun County Public Schools, Leesburg, VA.
The Loudoun County, Virginia, middle school home economics curriculum has been designed to meet the unique needs of the early adolescent. It is based on three major concepts: (1) basic skills; (2) self-knowledge/understanding/decision making; and (3) independence/interdependence. This guide on teen living for seventh graders includes a curriculum outline for the following seven instructional units: (1) introduction; (2) personal development/family relations; (3) consumer education; (4) management; (5) foods/nutrition; (6) clothing/textiles; and (7) home laundry. Each area includes performance objectives, criterion-referenced measures, and performance guides. A checklist for measuring student performance of competencies follows the outline. A correlation with a West Virginia curriculum guide lists how each unit's learning activities relate to the three major concepts. A section on career infusion information follows, listing eight career education objectives, the relevant subject and middle school grade, and which curriculum guide and unit contains the objectives. Eleven resources are listed in this guide. (NLA)
