In this article, five highly experienced music educators tell what they love about teaching music. They are: (1) Rob Amchin, professor of music education at the University of Louisville, Kentucky (elementary general music specialist and percussionist--over 30 years of experience); (2) Susan Bechler, retired orchestra teacher for the Victor Central Schools in Victor, New York (35 years of experience); (3) Bill Gradante, band instructor (with a specialty in mariachi) in the Fort Worth, Texas, Independent School District (31 years of experience); (4) Lois Guderian, assistant professor of music at the University of Wisconsin-Superior (general and choral music specialist--over 30 years of experience); and (5) Michael Stone, visual and performing arts department coordinator in the Bakersfield, California, City School District (20 years of experience).
