Math and Movement: Practical Ways to Incorporate Math into Physical Education
Wade, Marcia
Strategies: A Journal for Physical and Sport Educators, v29 n1 p10-15 2016
Each year, physical educators are asked to incorporate even more math, language arts, science and social studies into their curriculum. The challenge is how to do this without sacrificing the essential health and life skills provided by a quality physical education program. One program, Math & Movement, is a great aid for physical educators to accomplish both goals. Math & Movement is a kinesthetic, multi-sensory approach to teaching and practicing math concepts that incorporates physical exercise, stretching, cross-body movements and colorful, engaging floor mats. While originally designed for use in regular classrooms, many Math & Movement program components can easily fit into the PE curriculum, allowing physical educators to provide students with both a quality physical education program, and math practice.
