Examines three different factors that could explain the variability in attempts to diversify journalism and mass communication faculties: the characteristics of the region in which the journalism program is located, the characteristics of the university that houses the program, and the characteristics of the journalism program itself. Outlines nine specific observations that show how the interventions and observations at three universities were surprisingly consistent. (SG)
