Evaluates the role and nature of political education in the school system of the German Democratic Republic. Defines inculcating Marxism-Leninism as the primary guideline for behavior in all situations as highest in the hierarchy of educational goals. Research findings indicate, however, that, in spite of the stress on political education, its effect on youth attitudes and behavior is only modest. (DB)
