Discovering identity can be a lifelong challenge for some people, while others seem to figure it out right away. During the middle school years, finding one's identity can be a daunting task. Most students will spend a considerable amount of time during these middle years looking for it. This lesson on cut-paper self-portraits lets students delve into the question of identity while having fun and lessening the level of anxiety that it can provoke. This student-centered project is easy on the supply budget, using mostly construction paper and glue. It is also a good way to use miscellaneous pieces of construction paper, which are always piling up. This project helps students really analyze how they look and figure out how to make that image out of paper. (Contains 1 online resource.)
