Instructor-Assisted Individualized Instruction versus Computer-Assisted Individualized Instruction for Teaching Keyboarding on Microcomputer Keyboards. Final Report.
Schulz, Barbara R.
Eight students enrolled in keyboarding at State Fair Community College in Sedalia, Missouri in Spring 1985 participated in a comparison of computer-assisted keyboarding instruction and instructor-assisted keyboarding instruction. Half were given instructor checkpoints at specified intervals; half did not have this regular, planned interaction with the instructor. Objectives were to identify the better instructional method and to produce instructor-assisted individualized instruction keyboarding materials for use with microcomputer keyboards. Conclusions were that students liked contact with the instructor, computers provided adequate instruction for keyboarding, and students preferred microcomputer keyboards. Attachments, which comprise the major portion of the report, include a summary of student evaluation of instruction, a syllabus for a two-semester-credit individualized course for keyboarding (objectives, required materials, grading procedures, TRS-80 Network 3 instructions, keyboarding lesson plans), study guides and tests (written midcourse and final examination and final production test), lesson record sheet, and 10-key numeric keyboard computing program.
