Cybertechnology Ethics of University Students in Lebanon: Assessing University Students' Activities and Perceptions of Cybertechnology Ethics in Lebanon
Jabbour, Khayrazad Kari
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Saint Louis University
Use of internet technologies is widespread in Lebanon. Technology has a revolutionary impact on our lives, behavior, and in particular a strong impact on our students. Part of our students every day routine is to use the computer and the Internet to play, learn, and communicate. Although most students use the computer and the Internet on a daily basis, many students remain unaware of how to use this technology responsibly. In recent years, there has been an alarming increase in technology misuse and abuse, especially amongst young people. This raises the issue of the need to develop or improve cyber ethics curriculum in our universities. The purpose of this study is to investigate how university students in Lebanon conceptualize and implement rules and guidelines related to cybertechnology safety, security, and ethics. To examine the research questions and hypotheses in this study, a survey was administered to and completed by 374 university students. The findings of this study revealed that cyber ethics is a neglected area among Lebanese students. This study also suggested that the universities, and governments as well, need to offer a variety of resources to teachers' so they are able to teach cybertechnology ethics, which may contribute to a safer, more secure and more responsible use of cybertechnology among students and the Lebanese population in general.
