Professional Development: Identifying Effective Instructional Coaching Activities
Mannino, Gina
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Lamar University - Beaumont
The purpose of this study was to identify the instructional coaching activities most used by instructional coaches in southeast Texas school districts and to test if there was a relationship between the use of instructional coaching and perceived improvement in the instructional practices of teachers and student achievement. The participants for the current study consisted of a convenience sample of instructional coaches (n = 243) from eleven school districts located in southeast Texas. The researcher used the Instructional Coaching Activity Effectiveness Survey (ICAES) to measure coaching activities perceived to be effective by instructional coaches. The results of the analyses suggested that there was not a statistically significant, positive relationship between the use of instructional coaching and perceived increased student achievement. The results of the research did find a moderately strong relationship between the frequency of usage of IC activities and improved teacher practices (effectiveness).
