The world changed in 2008. The financial crisis brought with it a deepening sense of insecurity, and the desire to be connected to a network increased. Throughout the summer and fall of 2008, events were unfolding with alarming rapidity. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Alumni Association wanted to respond to this change in the economic landscape, and in doing so, found a new way to partner with alumni and enhance the roles they play. As director of alumni education at MIT, the author's main focus is finding ways to keep alumni intellectually in touch with the institute. While MIT offers a robust array of educational materials online, the alumni association emphasizes programs that foster relationship building among alumni. In this article, the author describes the "View from the Top" events held by the MIT Alumni Association for alumni.
