Comparative Education: Contemporary Issues and Trends.
Halls, W. D., Ed.
The global status of comparative education from the 1960s to the present is presented in three parts. Part 1 comprises a general review of the background to seven regional studies. The review provides a picture of the overall historical development; the modifications in the concept of comparative education that have occurred; the general approaches, methods, and theories that have emerged in recent years: the problems and concerns that have arisen; and some remarks on content and practice. The texts of the regional reports are presented in Part 2. The chapters include: Western Europe; the socialist countries; North America; Latin America; Asia and the Pacific; Africa; and the Arab states. Part 3 deals with the national and international infrastructures of comparative education including societies, associations, centers, and journals and the impact these have on theory and practice. The work is supplemented by a selective bibliography. (KM)
