Race, Family Structure, and Delinquency: A Test of Differential Association and Social Control Theories.
Matsueda, Ross L.; Heimer, Karen
American Sociological Review, v52 n6 p826-40 Dec 1987
Broken homes have a larger impact on delinquency among Blacks than non-Blacks. In both populations, the effects of broken homes and attachment to parents and peers are mediated by the learning of definitions of delinquency, a finding that supports differential association over social control theory.
