Strengthening At-Risk and Homeless Young Mothers and Children
Medeiros, Debra; Vaulton, Wendy
Zero to Three (J), v30 n3 p27-33 Jan 2010
The Strengthening At Risk and Homeless Young Mothers and Children Initiative, funded by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, aims to improve the housing, health, and development of homeless and at-risk young families. This article describes the services provided in four program sites (Pomona, CA; Antelope Valley, CA; Minneapolis, MN; and Chicago, IL) through locally based partnerships that include housing/homelessness and child development agencies, as well as those that address family preservation, domestic violence, mental health, substance use, and other support services. The authors share lessons learned from an ongoing evaluation of the Initiative and underscore the need for comprehensive, community-based systems to make real and lasting change.
