TEX-SIS First-Year Graduate Follow-Up, Vol. 2, #1.
Gose, Frank J.
A follow-up study was conducted of Yavapai College students who completed a certificate or graduated with a degree in spring 1980 to obtain demographic data and information on the graduates' current status, purpose for enrolling at Yavapai, and views of the college, and on the relationship between their current activities and their coursework at the college. Questionnaires were mailed to 155 program completers and graduates, and 79 responses were received. Study findings indicated: (1) 33.3% of the respondents attended Yavapai to prepare for a job, 35.7% to obtain university transfer credit, 11.9% for personal interest, and 9.5% to improve existing job skills; (2) 46.4% were employed full-time when surveyed, 35.7% were continuing their education, and 9.5% were employed part-time; (3) of the respondents who transferred to another college, 9.5% had difficulties in transferring credit, problems with transcripts, or other problems; (4) 78.8% of the transfer students were studying full-time and 77.7% felt that their community college program had prepared them satisfactorily or excellently for their current program; (5) the average monthly salary of respondents employed full-time was $1,025; and (6) 90.5% of the full-time employees considered their Yavapai training as useful or very useful in performing their current jobs. The study report includes respondent profiles for general education, nursing, occupational/technical, and transfer students; all combined majors; associate in arts students; males; females; and full-time employees.
