Arizona Commission of Indian Affairs 1984 Annual Report.
Arizona Commission of Indian Affairs, Phoenix.
Designed to provide insight into the Arizona Commission of Indian Affairs' proceedings, transactions, and findings, the 1984 annual report describes the year's efforts to improve communications, understanding, and working relationships between all concerned. After reviewing Commission meeting attendance and the attendance of related meetings, the report summarizes 25 projects completed during the year. Commission highlights include Commission appointments, notes on the Education Sub-Committee's meeting, award of a D'Arcy McNickle Memorial Fellowship in history research to the field coordinator, initiation of the Commission's Sunset Review Audit, the 10th Indian Town Hall, and two publications. Also reviewed in the highlights are 28 instances of technical assistance and liaison services, and major issues identified by the Commission which focus on court decisions ranging from tribal water, hunting, and fishing rights to legislation and regulation of bingo, state-tribal relationship, and federal policies upholding tribal self-government. A financial report details the allocation of $128,600. A profile of Indians in relation to non-Indians in Arizona describes urban lifestyles, the economy, community facilities, tribal governments, employment, youth, recreation, food, and cultural differences. The report also contains a list of Commission members, a map of Arizona Indian reservations, and population/acreage figures for Arizona reservations. (PM)
