Principles of School Business Management. Second Edition.
Wood, R. Craig; And Others
The contemporary school business administrator must be knowledgeable in a wide variety of areas. This book was designed to serve as a basic reference for practicing school business administrators as well as a text for graduate courses in school business administration. It offers a comprehensive overview of school business management. Chapters 1-3 present an introduction to the field, legal context, and taxation of public education. Chapters 4 and 5 present information on management theories and strategic planning. The sixth and seventh chapters summarize fiscal equity challenges and legal liability. Chapters 8-12 discuss personnel issues, collective bargaining, reduction in force, accounting, and school district budgeting. Quantitative management activities, such as financial management, quantitative decision making, management information systems, and Total Quality Management, are examined in chapters 13-16. Chapters 17-23 describe capital outlay and bonding, facilities planning and management, risk management, school district purchasing, pupil transportation, food service, and school site-based management. Endnotes accompany each chapter; an index is included. (LMI)
