A Field Test of Festinger's Substitute Locomotion Theory.
Stewart, Lea P.; Gudykunst, William B.
Central States Speech Journal, v37 n1 p3-7 Spr 1986
Provides evidence for rejecting Festinger's Substitute Locomotion Theory of organizational communication. Demonstrates a clear difference between formal and informal channels of upward communication. Indicates that high mobility individuals communicate significantly more with their supervisors than low mobility individuals and that males communicate significantly more than females. (JD)
