The Teacher and His Philosophy.
Marshall, John P.
This book presents a case for educational philosophy and outlines the essentials of Idealism, Realism, Perennialism, Pragmatism, and Existentialism. Each system is described in detail with enough of its history to give it continuity and relate it to the classic subdivisions of philosophy, namely: metaphysics, epistemology, axiology, ethics, aesthetics, and logic. The final chapter sums up each philosophy and concludes that it is the successful teacher who, realizing that the most important educational issues are all practical and philosophical problems, determines the relationship that will prevail between educational theory, educational practice, and society's view of education. Suggested readings and a glossary of terms are included. (PD)
