Elder Abuse Awareness Module.
The Elder Abuse Prevention Project sponsored by the Seniors' Education Centre, University Extension, University of Regina (Saskatchewan, Canada) emerged from a provincial workshop held by the Centre in 1989. The workshop was designed to examine possible avenues for addressing elder abuse issues in Saskatchewan. The purposes of the project were to increase sensitivity and awareness of elder abuse issues and resources; help create resource networks; develop partnerships between seniors and professionals; and help foster local helping networks for intervention and prevention. This document presents an educational resource tool designed for use by both seniors and professionals in Saskatchewan and other provinces and territories. The module is meant to encourage and assist individuals to further develop their knowledge and skills as well as continue educational activities regarding elder abuse. The opening sections of this guide cover the general preparatory work needed to help organize, plan, design, and present an elder abuse workshop. They include information on organizing a workshop, adult learning guidelines, designing a workshop, and outlines for full-day, half-day and one-hour workshops. By far the greater part of the guide consists of eight appendixes which provide: all of the background reading for the workshop itself; abbreviated facilitator notes on each topic; group activity suggestions; overheads and handouts; a sample evaluation for readers to photocopy and use with workshop participants. summaries of two reading resources; a glossary; and a bibliography listing resources for materials and 36 texts and articles.
