T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood: Providing Strategies and Solutions for the Early Childhood Workforce
Russell, Sue; Rogers, Julie
Exchange: The Early Childhood Leaders' Magazine Since 1978, n162 p69-72 Mar-Apr 2005
T.E.A.C.H., which stands for Teacher Education And Compensation Helps, began in 1990 in North Carolina. What began as a small pilot project, offering scholarships to 21 caregivers, has grown into a national movement. Now in 23 states, T.E.A.C.H. addresses the enduring challenges that plaque the early childhood field--high turnover, low compensation, and insufficient teacher education--by providing the opportunity for a diverse population of adult learners already working in the field to gain more education. This article discusses how the T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood Project operates.
