Colorado Outward Bound School River Rafters' Manual.
Leachman, Mark
Instructional sequences, safety rules, duties of crew members, and procedures for Colorado Outward Bound School river rafting trips are summarized in this manual. Designed to acquaint instructors with the duties expected of them on the trips, the information in the manual is presented in outline form and is intended for those with prior river experience. It covers all the sequences of a river trip, beginning with the necessary pre-trip preparations. The section on roles of the river staff itemizes the duties of each staff and crew member. Food organization, sanitation and cleanup, and camp craft are also explored. The instructional sequence covers proper dress, safety rules, crew responsibilities, command signals, basic strokes, and rapids procedures. Direction on raft care include inflation and preparation, daily care, cleaning, drying, and deflating at the end of the trip. Use, equipment, rigging and position of the support pontoon boat are outlined along with the duties of its boatmen. Emergency procedures include those for man overboard, raft tipover, injury, illness, or death. Appendices list the basic needs in clothing, dunnage bags, first aid supplies, group equipment, and boating equipment. Four days of menu ideas are also given.
