Following an introduction, three papers discuss the U.S. health care system: (1) "National Health Care Reform: The Time Is Now" (Thomas Donahue); (2) "The Public's View of the Future of Health Care" (Robert Blendon); and (3) "Is a Radical Change in Health Care Financing for the United States in the Offing?" (Stuart Altman). Panel presentations on "Labor-Higher Education on Health Care Reform" include the following: "Labor's Perspectives: The Need for Health Care Reform" (John Sweeney), Gerald McEntee); and (2) "Higher Education's Perspectives: The Campuses and Health Care Concerns" (W. Ann Reynolds, Joseph Duffey). Work group reports are summarized on the values and options for health care reform. Finally, the report includes "The AFL-CIO on National Health Care." Two appendices on the "Labor/Higher Education Council" and "Statement: Labor in Higher Education Governance" are included. (NLA)
