Modeling with guided participation was used to modify a 6 year old boy's (S) extreme social withdrawal from peers. A model (M) demonstrated social interactions, provided S with opportunities for practice, and participated with him in other social interactions, all under optimal conditions. The frequency of S's social interactions rose significantly and his avoidance behavior almost completely disappeared after treatment. (Author)
