Teacher as Researcher: Young Children as Forces of Nature: Critical Perspective in a Preschool Classroom
Templeton, Tran N.
Childhood Education, v89 n3 p185-187 2013
On the first day of November, after an unplanned three days off from school, a group of young children excitedly returned to the classroom and re-acquainted themselves with one another and with the materials in their classroom. Hurricane Sandy had devastated the city, with unprecedented damage to schools and homes. For many of the preschoolers, that morning was the first time they had left their homes since the child care center had closed for the emergency. After such a long break from school, one of the preschool co-teachers asked each of the children to share what they did while they were not at school. While some mentioned staying at home, others mentioned, either directly or indirectly, the storm and its effects. Their responses are discussed in this article. (Contains 1 note.)
