Baby and Toddler Learning Fun: 50 Interactive and Developmental Activities To Enjoy with Your Child.
Goldberg, Sally
Based on the view that almost every interaction a parent has with an infant is an opportunity to help the baby learn more about the world, this book provides parents with simple and effective ways to enrich their infant's environment and to boost their childs language, motor, and social skills. Introductory remarks describe the learning areas addressed in the book--self-awareness, colors, letters, numbers, shapes, and reading--and how the toys and activities can be used at home or in a child care setting. The remainder of the book is organized in three parts. Part 1 presents ideas to keep in mind as parents construct toys and use them in play, including the importance of interaction, an emphasis on safety, areas of learning, a rationale for making one's own toys, conducting toy-making workshops, and collecting developmental ideas and daily tips. Part 2 gives instructions for making and using 50 simple toys. Part 3 provides follow-up activities and an overview regarding parents' role in educational stimulation. Appended are workshop worksheets and record sheets and information on child rearing resources. (Contains 22 references.) (KB)
