This guide is intended to assist business education teachers in administrative support courses. The materials presented are based on the Arizona validated occupational competencies and tasks for the occupations of receptionist, secretary, and administrative assistant. Word processing skills have been infused into each of the three sections. The guide includes competency/skill task lists, an employability skills charts crosswalk, an instructor's guide to 39 validated competencies, and an annotated bibliography. Each section of the curriculum guide contains the following: competency/skill, task, performance objective (including conditions, evaluation measure, and standard), suggested student learning experiences, suggested instructional techniques, necessary instructional equipment and materials, recommended resources, and information sheets. The following are among the 10 receptionist, 14 secretarial, and 15 administrative assistant skills/competencies covered: uses written and oral communication and personal responsibility skills; uses office equipment to complete job tasks; applies principles of records filing; uses reference materials in completing job tasks; organizes work area; schedules appointments according to company procedures; receives and places telephone calls; receives visitors to the office; processes mail according to company procedures; applies principles of financial record keeping; maintains office supplies; coordinates travel and business meeting arrangements; and supervises personnel.
