Intercultural Education: Concept, Context, Curriculum Practice. Education and Culture. The CDCC's Project No. 7: "The Education and Cultural Development of Migrants."
Jones, Crispin, Ed.; Kimberley, Keith, Ed.
The Second International Conference for Multicultural Education focused on making European educational systems more European, international and intranational, and brought together views from teachers and other educationalists on issues relating primarily to secondary curriculum. This publication discusses the general ideas raised at the conference and provides 20 papers grouped into 3 sections: (1) the concept of intercultural education and its recent history, (2) the context in which schooling takes place in Europe, particularly from the viewpoint of those regarded as migrants or newcomers to the countries concerned, (3) the intercultural curriculum and examination of a series of detailed specifications of practice in the subject areas of languages, literature, drama, social sciences, and science and technology within the secondary curriculum. Conclusions and some recommendations for future action are provided in a fourth section. Some of the papers include references. Appendices contain a list by author of the papers given at the conference, and a list of participants by country. (JMM)
