This speech is a preview of the report prepared by the Commission on Academic Tenure. Following a review of the Commission's history, four major areas are reviewed. These areas include salient facts about the current operations of the tenure system, central tendencies of the Commission's findings and recommendations, an outline of the Commission's report and illustrations of some major concerns, and a presentation in greater detail of one of the commission's recommendations concerning staff planning.
