Hiring New Teachers: What Do School Districts Look For?
Ralph, Edwin G.; Kesten, Cyril; Lang, Hellmut; Smith, Douglas
Journal of Teacher Education, v49 n1 p47-56 Jan-Feb 1998
Investigated hiring criteria Canadian administrators used to assess prospective teachers seeking employment. Surveys of 69 Directors of Education indicated that hiring preferences reflected directors' own practical orientation toward schooling. The three broad areas that the directors valued were good interpersonal communication skills, good classroom management/discipline/instructional skills, and good university-related background and experiences.
