The Collegiate Experience of Greek Letter African American Males
Danielle Frazier
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Trevecca Nazarene University
Black Greek Letter Fraternities are part of America's history and include notable individuals such as Martin Luther King, Jr., John Lewis, W.E.B. Dubois, and Jesse Jackson. The foundation for each of them was a postsecondary education at either a Historically Black University and College (HBCU) or a Predominantly White Institution (PWI). What variables made each of these African American males great in their own right as they matriculated through college? Black Greek Letter Fraternities have been the avenue for African American men to increase academic success. The findings in this study will include student success and engagement, university satisfaction, retention, family dynamics and support, and participation in fraternities as it relates to student success.
