The School Community Council: Creating an Environment for Student Success
Diehl, Daniel; Gray, Cathy; O'Connor, Ginny
New Directions for Youth Development, n107 p65-72 Fall 2005
The first full-service school in Evansville, Indiana, began at Cedar Hall Elementary School in the mid-1990s. In the planning phase of the Cedar Hall pilot, a number of community-based organizations, businesses, parents, and churches were invited to come together to develop a full-service school framework. In 2000, a district council was created--the School Community Council (SCC)--and in 2001, a grant from the Welborn Foundation--a local health foundation--supported the expansion of the full-service model through the SCC. This article describes the financing, evaluation process, and key components of the SCC. (Contains 5 notes.)
