Brandon Rashad Brown
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Trevecca Nazarene University
The purpose of this mixed-methods research study was to examine the relationship between academic self-efficacy, sense of belonging, and overall college experience of African-American males who served in resident assistant positions at predominately White institutions. Survey and interview data were collected for this research study from 69 participants from institutions in the Southeast region of the United States. Significant results were found between the three variables. Recommendations were to broaden research to explore and compare the experiences of African-American male resident assistants at historically Black colleges and universities to those who served at predominately White institutions, provide African-American male staff members with opportunities of mentorship and collaboration, and to explore recruitment and hiring practices of African-American males on college campuses.
