Surveys of 223 Canadian student teachers and professors indicate that current teacher training programs do not adequately prepare future teachers for today's multicultural schools, especially urban schools. Education students who have taken multicultural education courses say that, during their practicum, they got little guidance from the school administration or senior teaching staff and often had to improvise.
