The purpose of this booklet is to increase understanding of fundamental U.S. documents, the U.S. flag, patriotic institutions, and of San Francisco (California), March 14-16, 1986 of U.S. residents. Unit 2 describes and interprets the code of displaying the U.S. flag and provides a suggested flag education unit of study. Units 3 and 4 offer questions and answers about the U.S. Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution, while unit 5 provides a suggested citizenship course for foreign-born persons in preparation for naturalized citizenship and includes excerpts from addresses to new citizens by President Woodrow Wilson and U.S. District Court Judge John W. Delehant. A calendar of historical events and birthdays of famous U.S. citizens are provided in unit 6. Unit 7 includes a list of U.S. presidents and important events that occurred in each presidential administration, while unit 8 provides sections of selected U.S. documents. Selected patriotic quotations by famous people are provided in Units 6 and 8. Drawings of flags are included. (JHP)
