Oral history is a significant type of historical research. Its use in retaining records of the early days of educational technology provides another way to look at the history of this field. The remembrances of its founders inform everyone today of, not only of what went on before, but also of how current and future technologies evolve. There are many areas of oral history that can be instituted in the historical study of educational and instructional technology. Some of them include early technologies, early organizations, and gender. Others focus on the military and war--times of great growth in the field. Examples of who can be interviewed for an educational technology oral history include retired technology professors, Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) presidents, and others who have worked with technology in the past. Sample questions to ask the interviewees include how and why they got into the educational technology field, and what they feel are the most important things to remember about the field in light of today's world.
