Working with Muslim Youths: Understanding the Values and Beliefs of Islamic Discourse.
Hodge, David R.
Children & Schools, v24 n1 p6-20 Jan 2002
Muslims constitute a significant and growing percentage of American youths, yet no articles have appeared in the social work literature to orient social workers to this population. This article reviews the nature of Islamic discourse, significant Islamic values, and potential value-based conflicts with the dominant secular discourse. Concludes with recommendations for culturally sensitive and effective practice with Muslim youths. (Contains 55 references.) (GCP)
