Examined the perception of musical intervals by musically inexperienced adults. Subjects in the standard condition received an explanation of intervals and heard examples on a keyboard. Subjects in the folk tune condition also were encouraged to associate intervals with notes in common folk songs. Subjects in the folk tune condition identified intervals better than subjects in the standard condition. (BC)
