A Guide for Teaching Consumer Education for a Coeducational Class in Home Economics at the High School Level.
Orange County Dept. of Education, Santa Ana, CA.
This guide for teaching consumer education for a coeducational class in home economics at the high school level is organized to capitalize on student interests. The course is for one semester, but more material than needed is provided. Overall course objectives are stated, and suggested course titles are listed. Eleven teaching units are described. The units cover the student as a consumer, getting a job, managing money, places to live, buying food, transportation, clothing, health, insurance, entertainment, and community responsibility. Each unit lists its own terminal performance objectives and evaluation suggestions. For example, the objectives of the job unit include learning to write a letter of inquiry and a personal resume. The content of each unit is outlined, and method, media, and activity ideas are given. A section with supplementary materials follows each unit. The document concludes with a bibliography. (BC)
