English Placement Test (EPT) Project Technical Report for May Test 1977.
Educational Research Inst. of British Columbia, Vancouver.
The purpose, development, administration, and scoring of the Educational Research Institute of British Columbia's (ERIBC) English Placement Test (EPT) are described. This test was designed to assist in the placement of entering college students into the appropriate courses of English usage and composition; it was not intended to be a criterion for college admissions. The test consists of 80 discrete items and a single 300-to 500-word essay based on one of five suggested topics. The essays are scored in two independent readings on a 9-point scale for each of four qualities: (1) development of ideas; (2) structure of the essay; (3) sentences--structure, grammar, and punctuation; and (4) words--precision, vocabulary, level of usage, and spelling. Some test items, the suggested essay topics, and other instructional appendices are included. (Author/CTM)
