Stepping up with Pedometers
Cagle, Bart
Strategies: A Journal for Physical and Sport Educators, v17 n3 p27-28 Jan-Feb 2004
Physical educators are using technology more than ever to help meet the national standards in physical education. One of the more useful technological tools is the digital pedometer. The newer versions of pedometers have multiple functions. They record the time elapsed, distance traveled and speed, and pulse rate. Others are equipped with a melody player, stopwatch, alarm or voice sensor, and protective lid. Here, the author describes the advantages of a number of these functions, as well as the advantages gained by teachers of using pedometers. Among other things, the author also presents a few disadvantages.
