Tuition and Mandatory Charges at Maryland Public Institutions of Higher Education. Postsecondary Education Research Reports.
McKeown, Mary
Information on tuition and mandatory charges for full-time undergraduates at Maryland public four-year institutions since 1977 is presented, along with comparisons with mandatory charges for full-time undergraduates in contiguous states and states belonging to the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB). Tuition and mandatory charges for full-time, undergraduate residents of the state varied at the public four-year colleges and universities but were consistently greater than the national average and the average charges of SREB states. Charges for the University of Maryland system were equal to the national average, higher than the average charges in SREB states, and lower than the charges at the research universities in contiguous states. Average room and board charges at Maryland public institutions in fiscal year 1986 were higher than those in SREB and contiguous states. Information is also provided on tuition and charges for graduate study, professional schools, and community colleges. Progress toward tuition guideline goals that were established by the State Board for Higher Education in 1982 is also evaluated. For each college and category of student, data are presented on tuition charges, and fees for: student activity, athletics, health, student union operations, and other. Enrollment data for the past 10 years at two- and four-year state colleges are included. (SW)
