Finch, Laura M.
Strategies: A Journal for Physical and Sport Educators, v24 n3 p33-35 Jan-Feb 2011
Imagery is a powerful sport psychology tool easily accessible to coaches. These reminders can help coaches improve their athletes' images and performance: (1) Create vivid and controllable images; (2) Use polysensory images and instructional cues, delivered, ideally, in real time; (3) Use internal and external perspectives; (4) Use imagery during the entire training and competitive spectrum including skill learning and practice, tactical and game skills, competition and performance, and psychological skills; and (5) Use video and imagery logs to enhance the quality of the imagery instruction.
